What have you been doing the past 40 years?:
After graduating from SVHS, I attended Auburn University, received a degree in Interior Design in 1974, and then began a career with South Central Bell, which morphed into BellSouth and now into AT&T. Over my 37 year career with AT&T, I have held a wide variety of positions, some more interesting than others. I married Rod Abbott in 1975 (SVHS '66) and (some say miraculously) stayed happily married for 35 years, until his sudden death in March of this year. We have one son, Tom, a wonderful daughter-in-law, Jenine, and 3 grandchildren - Andrew, who is 16, Alexander, who is 11 and Ashlee, who is 10 (going on 21). In 1996 I decided to go back to school and get my Master's degree, and in 1999 I graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a Master's Degree in Public & Private Management. I am currently serving my 3rd term on the Birmingham City Council representing District 3, a job that takes much more time and energy than my "paying job" with AT&T. I live on Birmingham's Southside in Glen Iris Park with my Chinese Shar-Pei named Theo, regularly attend Southside Baptist Church and am happy just to be alive.
What are your hobbies and what do you really enjoy doing?:
I love to garden, renovate houses (mostly my own), swim & kayak, although there's not much time for any of them! I have a 1930 Ford Touring Sedan that I intend to restore - someday.
