Gosh, how to condense 40 years into a paragraph! What an assignment!! Went to U of A & then transferred to UAB to complete nursing school (UA didn’t have one back then). Met my husband, Joel, who was finishing dental school. We got married in 1974 in Bangkok, Thailand because he was in Special Forces….we had some really cool experiences treating native Thais in the jungles. Returned to B’ham where Joel started a private practice & I taught at UAB….had our first son, Tanner in ’77. Joel was recruited to Piedmont in N.E. Alabama where we lived for 25 years. Our second son, Aaron, born in 1980. Our children have truly been our greatest blessings!! I’ve been teaching at JSU for 27 years…completed my doctorate in 1985….taught critical care nursing for years and years and have been Dean at JSU College of Nursing and Health Sciences for the last 5. In 2001 we moved to our retirement home in Cedar Bluff on Weiss Lake and we absolutely LOVE living here!! Joel sold his practice in Piedmont so we could begin maneuvering toward retirement…he practices in a corporately owned dental center in Gadsden. Tanner has been a writer for Southern Living for 10 years & was recently promoted to an editor position in Living/Travel. Tanner is single but has a precious girlfriend, Jennifer (she photographs many of the covers for Southern Living). Aaron spent 4 years in Washington, DC after grad school where he wrote speeches/managed an election campaign/wrote op eds for a US Representative….moved back to B’ham to be with his fiancé’ Megan (whom we love like a daughter!). They were married Aug 15 at Jekyll Island…Aaron is Coordinator for Communications at the U of A School of Law. I had a very intense and grueling experience with a rare form of cancer last summer….but I am so happy, ecstatic really, to report that I’m cancer free!! Praise God!! In the strangest sort of way, having cancer was a gift…(not that I want another gift of that kind!) But that experience gave a depth & breadth to my life…solidified my faith…causes me to treasure every moment. I have been blessed beyond my dreams!!! As I read that some of our classmates have lost children, my heart goes out to them & their families …God bless you and give you peace.
We live on a lake so we're on the water all the time!! I'm really into gardening....my husband builds me raised beds & I fill them with flowers :) Reading is a passion...usually have more than 1 book going at a time...we bike & walk...love to travel!

Four four-legged ones, no two legged ones, yet!
I completed my BA in vocal performance at Birmingham Southern College and did my Ma at The University Of Alabama in Theatre and Opera Production. I met my husband at a wedding in May of 1978, we had our first date in June, got engaged in July, and married on December 21st, 1978. This year will be our 31st anniversary!
Love reading, movies, cooking, dog shows, horse shows, and spending time with my family! I still sing at church, but my husband ended my dreams of opera and substitued love! Couldn't be happier with my life.
I have one daughter, Jenna, 27, who teaches International Relations and Comparative Politics at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. She shows American Staffordshire Terriers in both conformation and obedience. She is a jogger, hiker, and horsewoman. She got her Phd at The University of Alabama, Roll Tide!

Not as much as I should.
I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you. Just kidding. Spend most of the time burning the candle at both ends. Lately I have been slowing things down and trying to be a better person. My 2nd grand daughter was born yesterday (8/11/2011). Her name is Elena Sophia Cantalini. I am currently working as a demand analyst after retiring from Honeywell. I concentrate now on God, family and friends (in that order). I am so lucky to still be here after all that I have done. Wish I could see you guys. Contact me at bvilee@gmailcom.
Sailing and Golf and smoking cigars!

I have been shaped by every person that made an appearance in my life; that I personally met, related to or that I have come in contact with. The lessons have taught me well...yes I remember Edgewood Elem and Homewood Jr High with fond memories, but SVHS...those three yrs probably taught me the most-what never to do or be and what you need to do to reach your goal or purpose...and how to survive! Many of you helped me with my journey. I thank you. I look forward to having fun, sharing memories, dancing...and yes, seeing you all! |

I received my BA in Education from Birmingham Southern College and my MS in Special Education from Vanderbilt. I married Foster Cook in 1978 and taught Special Education in Jefferson County for 6 years before "retiring" for 9 years to be a full-time mom to Erin and Nathan. During that time I returned to school at UAB to get my master's certification in gifted education. I was the Gifted Specialist at Vestavia Hills Elementary East from 1990 to 2013, when I retired.
My husband and I love to travel, do volunteer work, and spend time at our lake house.
