I am married to one of them (Kaye Beasley)
I went to Georgia Tech and got two degrees (BS Math and MS Computer Science). I have been in mainframe software development my entire career. I now work for PNC Bank. I was single most of my adult life, but in 2008 I married Kaye Beasley (who had been married to our classmate Ronnie Moore before he passed away in 2006). We now live in Columbia, SC. As was true for us in high school, our lives are centered on our personal relationships with Jesus Christ and serving Him is our focus.
I sing in my church choir and also play french horn. Kaye and I enjoy cooking together and entertaining.

Went to Auburn for 2 years...back to B'ham...moved to Chattanooga in 1979...then to the suburbs of Atlanta in 1981...finally made the move to FL (Daytona Beach) in September 2018. Have always loved the beach and feel like this is "where I belong". Have 2 wonderful sons (they'll be 38 and 36 in Sept.) who live in the Atlanta area. That was the hardest part about moving to FL...being further away from them.
Working out at LAFitness...staying active by running in my neighborhood or walking at the beach...spending time with friends...listening to music, whether it's at a concert, club or on my iPod...reading... watching all of the "mindless" TV shows that I record so I can watch them commercial free.

I worked for the Birmingham Fire Department for 27 years and retired about 10 years ago. While doing that I also started my own business, George Crain Homebuilders, Inc. and have been doing custom homes and remodel work for over 30 years.
I love watching movies, especially old black and white westerns but my favorite hobby is Bass Fishing. I compete in tournaments on both the FLW trail and several on the BASSMaster trail. Last year I got to live my dream by qualifying and fishing the BASSMaster Classic this past February in New Orleans!!

Looking back 40 years seems like such a long time and then yet no time at all. My life has really been defined by family and my work and has certainly been a meandering path. The blessings of my first marriage were my "children" now 27 and 30. During those 11 years as Kim Hazzard, I finished college, taught English at Shades Valley (just imagine Miss Mackey saying, "call me Dinnie May"!)and worked at AmSouth (Regions)in Sales Training/Marketing. When I remarried, my small children and I moved to Sylacauga with my husband where we lived for about 15 years and did a lot of driving back and forth to Bham.I gained two wonderful step-children, now two accomplished young women. While in Sylacauga, I taught English at Sylacauga High School, was director of the Alabama Governor's School, and did marketing consulting for the hospital there and other small businesses. Finding Libby Williams Carleton in Sylacauga was fun and our children were friends in middle school. In 1992,I began my career at Altamont School (taught with Fred Ackerman's mother and Mrs.Foley - very small world) which included teaching English, lower school drama, speech, and administrative positions that included College Counselor, Dean of Faculty, Assistant Headmaster, and finally Interim Headmaster. My husband retired in 2004, and I decided that it was time to do something with more flexibility. Since all of my work experience has been basically defined by education, I moved into educational consulting with a specialty in college counseling and academic coaching. My husband who dreams big enough for the both of us, has planted a small vineyard in Virginia where we have built a small log cabin. With a daughter in Charlottesville, a son in DC, a stepdaughter in North Carolina, and a step daughter in Birmingham, we are able to stay close to everyone as we travel back and forth. In 1998, I was diagnosed with MS. I have excellent physicians who keep me moving and healthy. So it has been a very busy 40 years. I am dabbling in writing at the time, as all English majors do I guess. I have a lot of great ideas but have a hard time sitting still long enough to put them on paper. Candy and Rangley are two good role models.
I am very lucky that my work is so enjoyable and it includes so many things that I love doing - reading, traveling, but mosly TALKING! (surprise!) Meeting new students and their families. No routine. I truly enjoy helping my students find those "perfect" college opportunities and helping the parents make this transition as well. It is fulfilling to me to make sure that students know what valuable people they are as they work through the college application process which can be a bit daunting. Of course, baby sitting the grand baby is beyond fun. I love Pilates, movies, and I have a PUG named Buster whom I adore. He is actually my very first pet and my family feels that they now come 2nd to him. MMMMM? That may be a bit of the truth! Life is good .
This reunion year is such a huge milestone! I really appreciate Candy, Danny, and all the folks pulling the events together. I was counting down the days to the reunion when "life interfered". I really missed everyone and have loved the emails telling me who and what I missed. BIG PROBLEM! I have lost my 69 Tower. Does anyone have an extra or an idea how to find one? I think my children took off with mine. Of course they deny it, but they loved tracking down so many of their friends's parents in my year books. |
