retired School Counselor; recent licensure as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered
Play Therapist(RPT)
Married 4 1969 1 (Colt is 4 months old) Debbie Brown and I try to stay in touch. What a question! I have been so blessed! My life has been filled with joys and sorrows, family and friends, work and church. I went from president of the Shades Valley Library Club to head cheerleader at Birmingham-Southern and married the love of my life and captain of the baseball team. We have been married for 38 years and lived in Homewood with our four children since 1973. Fred worked at UAB's Pathology Medical School teaching program for 28 years before he retired with health concerns. I graduated from 'Southern with majors in Psychology and Education. I started out in the management training program in computer programing at South Central Bell, but it just wasn't where I belonged. They couldn't believe I quit, but I got back into working with people--especially children and families. I worked briefly in schools in Pell City and Bessemer. In 1977, I began my 30 year career in Vestavia Hills schools with 11 years as a psychometrist (testing for special ed. and gifted)and 19 years as a school counselor at Vestavia Hills Elementary Central for 12 years and Elementary West for 7 years. I accumulated degrees at UAB in School Counseling (Masters and AA), Psychometry ( Masters and Ed.S-School Psychology) as well as masters' certification in Administration and Instructional Supervision. Working with K-3rd grade at West I "rediscovered my inner child" and learned about play therapy. My counseling program was the only elementary school to receive the state counseling RAVE Award for excellence for 3 years from 2004-2006, then ALSCA put me on the RAVE committee in 2007 and asked me to be the chair since 2008. In 2008 my counseling program was recognized nationally as the first and only Alabama school counseling program to receive the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) Award in 2008. I actually retired in 2007, but had to submit additional supporting evidence to qualify my original entry. During this time I also became nationally certified through NBPTS in School Counseling in 2004 and have been assisting other counselors work toward national certification since 2005 at UAB on Saturdays. At the end of my career as a school counselor, I completed licensure requirements as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Registered Play Therapist (RPT).
In the meantime, Fred and I had 4 children. We are so proud of all of them! Through their school years they all played soccer, basketball and baseball/softball--Fred coached them all! All of them played on state championship teams in either soccer or football. All played on competitive soccer teams and Ty also played football. I spent my life in bleachers!Three of them started out at Edgewood, but I soon brought them with me, so all graduated from Vestavia Hills High School. Ryan (31) played soccer at Birmingham-Southern, completed medical school at UAB and is now in an anesthesiologist residency program in Miami. Ty (29)was a kicker/punter at Samford, completed his masters in accounting at the University of Alabama and is a CPA. Jessica (26) was a psychology major at Birmingham-Southern, completed her law degree at Cumberland at Samford, passed the bar in September 2009 and is our first to get married in February 2009(see picture). Seth (22)is a junior at Auburn in Computer Software Engineering. Our new son (in-law) Derek is an Auburn grad and an industrial designer that works with a local architectural firm. I am blessed that both my parents are living but they recently moved to Fairhope. My dear older sister Susan died from diabetes complications in 2000 after being on dialysis and living in a nursing home for four long years. Through it all, she always thanked the Lord for all her blessings. Her faith deepened mine.
Retirement has offered us both some new possibilities. We got a condo in Orange Beach, so I've had fun decorating and enjoying it with our family and friends.I'm learning golf! I've also developed skills making jewelry. I made necklaces and earrings for Jessica's bridesmaids. I'm starting a doctoral program at the University of Alabama in January 2010 in Counselor Education. I plan to continue my career as a counselor educator as an adjunct professor. I hope one day to have a play therapy practice part-time.
I participated in the 10 year reunion after our first two sons were born, but then life consumed me and I have always had conflicts that kept me from reconnecting. It will be good to see old, dear friends and see how we've all evolved. Send Celeste a MessageSend Celeste a Message

Contractor brownmechanical.com Married 3 5 Working in the contracting business, having children and grandchildren, boating, fishing and skiing. Ann and I have been married since 1976 and living in the same place since 1986. Amy lives in Huntsville and has 3 children, the oldest just graduated from High School - now there is an age reality check! Leigh Ann has a 3 year old, Caitlin and a new son named after his uncle Nicholas. What a joy. We lost Nick when he was a sophomore at Alabama to a ruptured spleen as a result of undiagnosed mononucleosis. Here is a link to the website for the foundation we started in his memory http://brownmechanical.com/nfpmf.htmln. We have learned alot in the past few years about what is really important. Family, friends and relationships mean more than anything else!
It has been fun working with the reunion committee. I am really looking foward to seeing everyone. Send Chip a MessageSend Chip a Message

Production Business Manager Married 2 None yet, waiting! I got married in 71 and am still happily married to him. We have 2 wonderful boys 28 & 30. The youngest is married to a kitchen/bath designer and he is a mechanical engineer at McWane. My oldest is a drummer still trying to "find himself". Hope it's soon! I was a stay at home mom until they were in school and loved every minute of it. I've worked as church secretary/bookkeeper, sales & catering for Holiday Inn, advertising for Moore-Handley, accounts manager for tile company and finally my dream job...advertising again for Martin Adv. Hope to retire here! My husband works for US Steel and ready for retirement! Quite a few health issues and I had a kidney transplant in 2003, getting a healthy kidney from my precious sister. Life is Good and God has blessed me more than I could ever have imagined. Each day is a gift and I thank Him for it. I love crochetting, knitting, reading and corvetting. We're members of MACC a local corvette club and we enjoy trips, local cruise-ins, etc.

I am actually class of '70 but some very insistent people persuaded me to join in the fun of 1969.  I truly hope to make the reunion although we may be out of town.  I thoroughly enjoyed the reunion meeting a few weeks ago.  I think both 69 & 70 were awesome years and met some great, great people.

Real Estate Development & Investment www.porterproperties.com Married 3 2 grandsons and another due just before the reunion Right out of Auburn I worked in Birmingham in the real estate appraisal field. In 1983 I moved back to Auburn and got into the real estate development business along with appraisals. We expanded the appraisal business to four offices in Ala/GA and did commercial property appraisals around the SE and nationally. Over the last fifteen years I've focused on development and acquisitions primarily of apartment, warehouse, assisted living and hotel properties. I declared myself semi-retired several years ago and took seminary classes from Asbury. The last couple of years I've been back working full time trying to keep/get the real estate "cart out of the ditch." Currently a partner and I have purchsed an old nursing home out of bankruptcy and are neck deep in renovating the facilities and the service. I play a little golf, snow ski every year or two, and spend time on Lake Martin with my wife and 10 yr old son and his friends. I enjoy reading and watching movies and cartoons. My current favorite is "The Penguins of Madagascar" cartoons. I've been a Lay Speaker in the Methodist Church for about 10 years and thoroughly enjoy preaching and teaching.

I am looking forward to getting back together - it's been too long. As the world seemingly falls apart around us, Gods gift of friendship is one thing that retains it's value. It will be good to reconnect.
